Mr. Deeds

Mr. Deeds had a great opening weekend, with a $37.2 Million debut the weekend of June 28 - June 30. And since then, it's continued to do well, earning over $5 Million each day on July 1 and July 2, beating out Spielberg's Minority Report and Lilo and Stitch.

There is a lot competition coming up this 4th of July weekend, with Men in Black II debuting, but hopefully Mr. Deeds will hold up. (7/3)

Here's an interesting story from Dennis, who watched Mr. Deeds being filmed in New Milford, CT, where he lives.

Adam Sandler in Mr. Deeds"I didn't get a chance to meet Peter Gallagher, but I did manage to stumble upon Peter Dante (who plays Murph, in Mr. Deeds). He was talking to a few people in the parking lot, and I didn't even realize who he was until I got to talking to him for a minute. I guess it was his normal and natural appearance outside of acting that confused me. I met him again the next day coming out of a Chinese restaraunt, and he actually remembered me from the night before.

I also waited in line to get Adam's autograph, but the line was so long and my 3 year old boy was getting tired. So I stood outside the line and was holding my boy up for one last look, when I said, "First timer here, do the right thing," right out of Big Daddy, and sure enough, the bodyguard cleared a path and let my boy and I right in front."

Thanks, Dennis! (6/24)

Noises Off is proving to be a great success, on Broadway. And one lucky fan got to actually meet Peter, in person!!!

Stephanie and her boyfriend, who traveled from Virginia to NYC to see the show, had the opportunity to meet Peter after the performance. Stephanie reports that Peter is just as nice and handsome as she ever imagined! She also had the chance to meet and talk with Faith Prince (who also starred with Peter in the Broadway adaption of Guys and Dolls) and both Faith and Peter signed her program. Click here to see another photo of Peter and Stephanie.

You're one lucky woman, Stephanie! (12/20)

Bringing Shallow Characters to Life

Peter was a guest on the Today show on October 31, 2001, promoting Noises Off. It was really a great interview, they gave a brief recap of his extensive career and we even got to see a few of his scenes from the play.

It's sure great to see him back in the public eye. It was truly a delightful interview. If you missed it, here is a transcript of the interview. (11/8)

Peter on Today
Noises Off

Noises Off is just ending its' preview run on Broadway and officially opens on November 1. Our roving correspondent, Fred, had a chance to attend one of these previews and checks in with this report:

Noises Off is a hysterical and hilarious farce about a theater company in England trying to put on a show. It is so fast paced and fast moving that you can't even catch your breath between laughs. And right now, it's just what the doctor ordered.

The plot develops all over the theater. The director, played by Peter Gallagher, is often sitting in the audience or running through the aisles to come up on stage with his actors. The stars on stage are all uniformly excellent running the gamut of emotions, with Patti Lupone a standout as a ditzy maid in the show being put on and a tempermental star in the show we are watching. Faith Prince is also memorable as one of the actors and her expressions are always extremely funny. But it is really Peter Gallagher whose energy is boundless that keeps it going at a fervent pitch. He can be alternately charming and obnoxious without losing the audience. Just bordering on sleazy as the director who is fooling around with two women at once, he retains enough charm so that you can see why these two women want him so badly.

The sets, the music and the dialogue are also first rate. Everyone has a chance to shine. If you are in New York while this show is running I cannot think of a better way to forget life's hardships and really have a good laugh. I laughed so hard I actually had a pain in my side. The audience felt the same as I did. At several points the laughter was so roaringly loud the actors had to just wait to continue. Laughter really is the best medicine and Noises Off is just what the doctor ordered. (By Fred 10/28)

One lucky fan has already had the opportunity to see Peter's new Broadway play, Noises Off. Jaymie Virok checks in with this report:

"Hi! I saw the first of the previews last night on Broadway for Noises Off. This is one of my favorite productions, and he was WONDERFUL!! If you sit in the Orchestra, you have a great seat, because he walks up and down the aisle (more towards the front). Nonetheless, it was wonderful --- all got standing ovations!" Sounds great! (10/18)
